Minor Hurling League Rd1: Dunboyne 2:16 Dunderry 2:14

Our minor hurlers won out by 2 points tonight in a close game on Rooske, in their first round of the Summer League. Dunderry were quickest out of the traps and were two up after 3 minutes. Joel Mangan stopped their momentum with a pointed free on 6 minutes but Dunderry restored the 2pt lead again 2 minutes later. Over the next 10 minutes the Home team had a purple patch and bagged 1:05 with out response, all from play. The lively Sean Delaney got the first two, followed by one each from Stephen Tighe, Rory Callanan and Charlie Gallagher. Evan Murphy pounced on a loose ball on the 14 yard line and hit the back of the net for the games first goal. Dunderry responded well though and bagged the next 3 points from play. Another Mangan free brought the curtain down on the 1st half, leaving the score at the break: Dunboyne 1:07 (2f) Dunderry 0:06.

The second half was only 2 minutes old when Delaney fielded a great ball, ran straight at the Dunderry defense and flicked the ball to the back of the net. Ethan O'Sullivan followed this up with a point 1 minute later to push the home team 8 points ahead. Dunderry responded with a point before Managan snagged another free. Credit has to go to Dunderry who never gave up and battled extremely well in the second half, and they were right back in the game thanks to an unanswered 2:01, between the 7th and the 12th minute to bring them back to within 1. Squeaky bum time. Mangan responded with 2 further frees but yet again the visitors followed up with another from play. Between the 17th and the 28th minute both teams traded scores, 4 each to be precise. A brace each from Delaney and Tighe just about kept the Dunboyne lads' noses in front on 2:15 to 2:13. Dunderry brought it back to one again from a placed ball but Managan had the last say with his 6th pointed free of a very enjoyable game. Next up for the team is an away trip to Kilyon on Monday night next - best of luck lads.

Final Score: Dunboyne 2:16 (0:06f) Dunderry 2:14 (1:02f)

(Note: Best of luck to Dunboyne inspirational centre back who had to leave the game in the first half due to a collar bone injury. Best of luck Shea!)
