Round 1 Junior Hurling Championship .
Dunboyne got their Junior Championship up and running in Batterstown this evening, against near neighbours Drumree in a hotly contested affair.
Played in perfect dry conditions, Liam Callanan got the first St. Peters point, followed by a pair of Neil Hackett frees.
In a low scoring first half, with both defences on top, Conor Murphy hit 3 fine points in a row, to cancel out an early Drumree goal.
The half drew to a close with another Hack free, leaving the sides level at the break.
H.T. Score : St. Peters 0 - 7 : Drumree 1 - 4.
The second half continued in real championship spirit, scores hard got. Conor Gilmartin gave an exhibition at midfield, covering every blade of grass & winning some vital frees.
Hack nailed 5 frees in a row, followed by a Conor Murphy & Ronan Conheady point. St. Peters were 3 points to the good with 10 mins left, before a Drumree goal levelled matters.
Drumree went a point up, the ever reliant Hack levelled it from a free, before Drumree went a point in front again with time now up.
Dunboyne now fighting for their lives, won a free 80 yards out. You've guessed it, Hack split the posts for a desevered draw & his tenth score of the night. Not bad for an ould lad still celebrating since Sunday, Tipp's famous win!!!
