MHC Div2 Rd3: Dunboyne 1:20 The Saints 1:08

Dunboyne cemented their position at the top of Group B in this year’s minor hurling championship with a victory over The Saints on Rooske on Monday evening. Bar the odd sprinkle of a light rain shower the conditions were perfect.

After a lacklustre first 15 mins the teams were locked on 4 points apiece. The home side ramped up the intensity to close the half out with 8 points on the trot without reply. This left the score at the break: St Peters (0:12 3f, 2’65) The Saints 0:04 (1f).

The travelling team came out of the blocks quickest on the resumption and got a goal in the first minute. But Dunboyne got back to the knitting straight after and notched up 1:03 over the course of the next 5 minutes, with the goal coming from a Rory Callanan 80 yard free that seemed to end up in the back of the net untouched. (1:15 to 1:04).

The result was never in doubt there after and the game finished out at Dunboyne 1:20 (5f, 4’65’s) The Saints 1:08 (4f).

Next up for the lads is a home championship semi-final on Monday 22nd versus a Boardsmill/Rathmolyon combination.

Dunboyne Scorers: Joel Mangan (0:10, 4f); Rory Callanan (1:05, 4X’65’s, 1f); Evan Murphy (0:02); Harry Clarke Murphy (0:02); Shea Mooney (0:01)
