MFC Premier Div6: St Peters Dunboyne 2:15 Navan O’Mahony’s 1:05
On Tuesday night last, our second minor team dominated from pillar to post as they won their championship final in Dunganny. In horrible wet conditions Dunboyne out played their opponents with an excellent performance of direct football and disciplined defending. They went in at half time leading 1:09 to 1:01, with the goal coming from Sean McNulty in the very first minute after a barnstorming run from midfield.
The second half continued along similar lines with a vast array of scorers, while all 23 players got game time. James Sheahan got the teams second goal in the 50th minute. Man of the match Jack Lawlor was unerring at no.6, the extremely mobile Tom Brandsma and Sean McNulty were peerless in the middle of the park while the team captain, Daithi McGowan, led from the front at no.11. After the game a slightly damp Daithi received the cup from the County Board delegate on behalf of his teammates.
The value of the 2nd teams performances and commitment cannot be overvalued, and this bunch of young men were all significant stakeholders in the results of the first team also as they pushed the bar up at every training session. They certainly deserved this success on Tuesday for all the effort they put in throughout the year. Best of luck in the years ahead
