Junior Hurling Div. 4 Championship Rd. 1.

Na Fianna 3 - 11 - Dunboyne 1 - 15.

Dunboyne travelled to a balmy Baconstown for their 1st round Championship game last evening.

Our squad was a mix of young & vastly experienced. Togged in our green & white away jerseys to avoid the colour clash, we got off to a tough start, conceding 2 early goals.

Liam Callanan opened our scoring with a fine point from mid field, followed by a Simon Cunningham point.

Finding ourselves 2 - 2 to 2 points behind, Paul Graves landed a long range free. Cunningham landed his 2nd.

Na Fianna scored their 3rd goal, but Dunboyne stuck with the task. The excellent Joel Mangan got the next score, followed by a Timmy O Connor point. Mangan nailed a free & another from play.

H.T. Score: Na Fianna 3 - 5 - Dunboyne 0 - 8.

The 2nd half started in good fashion for the visitors, a series of points from, our still minor Mangan, 2 from Liam Callanan & a free from Hack brought us right back into it.

A fine ball in by Hack & a super ground strike by Simon Cunningham rattled the Na Fianna net. A free from Joel Mangan, now had the teams level with 10 minutes remaining. Dunboyne were full value for their comeback.

With every contest & score now vital, 2 points from Na Fianna & 2 more from that man again, Mangan, both teams still deadlocked with 5 minutes left.

Na Fianna got the 2 last scores, to run out 2 point winners on the night. Dunboyne can be very proud of the battling qualities they showed on the evening.

This game will definitely stand to them for their next game against near neighbours Ratoath.

There were some excellent performances. Liam Davis in goal, his long puckouts were pinpoint accurate.

Our full backline kept their lively inside line in check. Rory Callanan was excellent when switched to corner back.

Still minor Shay Coone at wing back was outstanding & worked well beside the hard working Jason Nolan.

Liam Callanan & Conor Deering worked tirelessly in midfield throughout.

The hand of Hack was on full display, pulling balls from the clouds, particularly in the 2nd half, when most needed. Simon Cunningham worked very hard, ending up with 1 - 2 from play.

Joel Mangan, making his adult grade debut was outstanding, showing all evening, ending up with 7 points. A great future lies ahead.
